Promotional Videos Analysis
Music Video
The Music Video "Cemetery Gates" by Pantera is a song that relates to the themes of loss and regret, with a search for closure. The purpose of the product is to sell and entertain. This is due to the music company hoping to make a large income from their product while keeping their audience entertained with the catchy riffs within the song along with unique guitar solo. At the start of the music video all we hear is the sound of wind in an awkward silence while we hear the sound of pages turning from the priests bible. This creates a suspense to the audience as the song has not started yet while being 10 seconds into the music video. The opening lines to Cemetery Gates "Reverend reverend is this some conspiracy? Crucified for no sins, an image beneath me". Tells us that the narrator in the song is questioning what could have led to his suffering, as he now feels unjustly punished for sins that he did not commit. The narrator then reflects on the past with the lines, "Well, i guess you took my youth, i gave it all away, like the birth of a new found joy, this love would end in rage. This tells us how his childhood had been controlled and taken away by what had happened. Throughout the song we see the repeated lines of "reverend" which suggests that the narrator is holding on to religious themes, while questioning the concept of divine justice. As we get further into the song we come to lines " And when she died i should've cried and spared myself some pain...Left me incomplete, all alone as the memories still remain", tells us the narrator struggles to come to terms with his emotions and the memories of the person who he had lost. In conclusion this song is overall dealing with grief of a lost one who meant a lot to the narrator and wrote the song to describe everything they are feeling and how recovery is still not working. The demographic for this song would be ages between 13-50 for a male and female audience. This is due to the song picking up on some emotional events people could have gone through, therefore the audience must be able to understand what the song is about. Cemetery Gates is for both ABC1 and C2DE this is because the song can influence a lot of people. An ABC1 audience would be able to afford a Guitar and everything else needed for it, if they feel like learning the song, whereas a C2DE audience might only be able to listen to the song or buy cheap equipment. The Song also benefits a C2DE audience as you can watch the music video on YouTube for free.
The editing in the video is in black and white. This could link to the lines in the music video where he talks about his youth, showing us that in the music video he is talking about the past while showing a memory or a flashback. We see at the start of the music video the band Pantera looking down at the grave. We can see this through a low shot angle where the group is looking down at the grave. We also see the use of video editing with scenes with a Priest at the funeral ceremony being faded out while showing a wide shot of the cemetery. Later, during the music video, we see two people talking to each other within the music video. One of these people are the one who passes away in the video, which gives us a backstory of what the two are like. At the end of the video we see the guys friend sit next to his grave as he get berried. We see this in a high shot while looking down at the grave and the person. This could also link to the person who had died ascending to heaven while looking down at their friend.
Series Trailer
The trailer for one of the latest series released called Gen V, has a structure of being in non chronological order. This means that in the trailer we see different clips from each episode, this allows the audience to not know what to expect in the first episode as everything is mashed together in one place, this keeps the trailer interesting as the plot is not spoiled for us and it can keep their audience guessing for what is to come next. This is useful as it creates hype around the product ensuring there will be a suitable amount of viewership and income from the product. In the trailer, it also tells us how we can access the series. We can view the series on Amazon Prime as the trailer uploaded onto YouTube was posted by Amazon Prime, we can also see in the image used as the cover of the video a Amazon Prime logo in the top right of the cover, which tells us this is done by Amazon before even clicking on to the image. The use of sound in the trailer has some form of an EDM soundtrack playing while at the same time the build up of the song matches the trailer making it more and more uneasy for the viewers. Overall, the trailer is effective, as it reaches their audiences needs for what they expect to see in the series. For example, the series will be wanting an audience of both male and female audience who are into the genres of action and adventure. We can tell that this is an action series, as we can see fight scenes throughout the trailer, along with seeing scenes with cgi and blood to enhance the fight scenes we see to make them look more supernatural while at the same time making it look realistic. Also, we can tell that this is an adventure series, as throughout the trailer we see camera shots of locations showing different cities and environments, which tells us that the characters in this series will be travelling to more than one location.
The series will be aimed at both a male and female audience, which tells us that the series is going to have topics where both genders can relate to. This will make both genders feel involved with the series. We can also see in the trailer different races along with females playing powerful roles from what we can see from the trailer. By having the series include different races bring in a much larger audience as a more diverse audience will be the viewers for the series. However, with having a more diverse audience the series must not get too stereotypical, otherwise they might lose viewers and even receive complaints. At the start of the trailer we see a women who looks to be a teacher based in the formal clothing she is wearing. We see her in a medium close up shot, this makes us put all our attention to her as she stands looking forwards at her. By doing this it makes the character look important with the first 3 seconds we see her. With having the character looking directly into the camera as she introduces someone to this university, could also seem like she is talking to the audience, which once again makes the audience feel included within the trailer.
Movie Trailer
The movie Pele Birth of a Legend was created to dedicate the career of the footballer Pele. The film resolves around the life of Pele and the different steps and ricks he does to prove to the world he is going to be one of the best at Football. This matches well with the film as its not an audio visual biography with just Pele himself talking about his life, but instead having actors reenact Pele's childhood and early adulthood. The first 10 seconds of the trailer shows us a wide shot of slums, which tells us that Pele lived his early life in poverty. This would be suitable to its audience as we can see how people in Brazil who lives in the slums life differentiates from our lives back at home. We then see more shots that aren't in chronological order showing us the stages Pele takes to become a footballer. The reason why the trailer is showing us these clips in a different order is to keep the audience watching the trailer, without them feeling like they have now seen the main parts of the film. It also, allows an audience who might not know much of Pele to guess how he became a footballer with how they see the clips in the trailer. The product was created to entertain its audience and also sell the product in order to gain a mass income back from the film. The target audience for Pele Birth of a Legend, is mainly a demographic of males from ages 13- 90. However, the film is still open to females, even though the film is more male dominant. The film is a PG, as we see theft, violence and even death, although this is not repeated through the film means the main target of action for the film will be football due the genre of the film coming under sports. The target audience for this film is both ABC1 and C2DE. Although this film is based around poverty, it still still focused on football which both audiences are interested in making them both interested in this product.
Within the product for the trailer they use Mise-en-Scene by having their actors in the football kits for as we can see club kits like Santos in black and white and the national kits for brazil which is orange and blue. However, all the actors that are wearing the football kits are men, as back then when Pele made his football debut during the 50s, the sports was heavily male dominated meaning there would be no women playing the sport back then. Also, we know that Pele lived in poverty as we see him dressed in dirty used clothes along with everyone around him, which could also mean that could be his only clothes that he has.
The camera work and editing we see throughout the film is the fast paced flow we get from the trailer, along with the cameras zooming into the actor who plays Pele to show he is the main character. We also see edits of clips cutting to titles building up to what the product is about. The structure of the trailer gives us a limited amount of detail. As we can hear the actor who plays Pele talk about how he wants to win the world cup for Brazil, which then cuts to him years before he said those words listening to Brazil lose a final.
Game/Animation Trailer
The new EA FC trailer is to promote their new game, and show the new and improved graphics from their previous game, showing their audience that they have advanced their game once again to make it as realistic as possible. The purpose of this trailer is to sell and entertain, as the trailer focuses on being cinematic and explaining everything new rather than showing gameplay. This allows the audience to guess what the gameplay is going to be. By doing this it brings hype around the product and increases the numbers of people who will buy this game. EA FC have many famous footballers on their game, including retired players that the older generation would know. We also see other players from other clubs in the trailer, this makes more people want to buy the game as they will want to play as the team they support. The sound used in the trailer is music that has hits or really catchy as their audience would refer to hearing that song through EA FC. The song used in the trailer was the song "love me again" by John Newman. From what we see in the trailer, it talks about how we see how the company informs us of improved graphics, skill moves, and once again promoting Hypermotion technology which brings the game to life. The target audience for this game is for both ABC1 and C2DE. This is because the game is available on both console generations so people without a PS5 and the Xbox Series X. This allows their audience to be bigger as having the game available on both consoles allows more people to play the game without having to worry about buying a new console. Also, the target audience demographic is both male and female. This is because we see within the trailer female footballers and male footballers, like Erling Haaland for the men's team and Sam Kerr for the women's team. This makes the game more diverse as women could now be inspired to play the game after seeing the trailer not being male dominated.
However, the age range for the trailer are ages 10+ as the game has both current players and retired players considered as legends within the game. We know this as we see a quick shot of Luis Figo being substituted off the pitch. Also, this would draw in a younger audience as they will have the chance to play as players from the past who they missed. During the trailer we get a first person view of Haaland playing a match against Tottenham. This makes the audience feel like they are actually Haaland in that match, which allows them to escape reality. By doing this it makes the trailer for the product feel more like real-life rather than a game.

Within this Channel 4 Tv ident, it gets played throughout adverts allowing us to know that the next show will be playing on Channel 4. From this video we follow the cameraman who is going through some form a tunnel at the end of the Channel 4 logo. We see the Channel 4 logo change its texture and form every time we go through the tunnel. This could suggest that Channel 4 has a wide range of variety in their shows. The target audience for Channel 4 is an ABC1 and C2DE. This is because Channel 4 has shows that both can relate to or sometimes shows neither can relate to but may have an interest in it. Also, Channel 4 is a free channel meaning that everyone can watch it without having to pay a subscription meaning none of the audience lose any of their income. However, the age range for Channel 4 would be 14+ as most of the series shown across Channel 4 are drama series that a younger audience would not understand. The demographic for the Tv Ident would be both male and female, as the video shows both genders within the video and their roles in society. Also, the poem does not address who he is speaking to as when he is talking to the viewers he only uses the word "you" making it a direct address to us as an audience watching the ident.
