LO4: Finalise production materials for promotional video idea.

 Offline edit for music video

For my promotional video, what i plan on improving is the visual quality of the video, along with slowing down parts of the video. The reason why i want to do this is because i have a limited amount of footage that will either need looping or slowing down to ensure the video is going to fit within the timescale that is required. Also, i will create moving images for the video, as having my mate actually get ran over by a bus would not down well legally. I will do this by finding a free downloadable image, and then use adobe animate to create a moving image.

Enhancing your edit for final draft

At the start of the music video, i added an introduction, as the build up to the song allowed me to add in the title of the song, with the people who are in it. It also adds more detail to the video, as the viewers, wont have to do any looking up to find any other additional information.
For the end of the music video, i added a recording crash to the end of the video, to give it a non-serious vibe towards it as the rest of the video is not a serious song. For example, the sentence i added to the bottom of the filter i used the words "No human or bus was hurt in this video", the reason why i wanted to add this, was to add a comedic side towards to the video. I also had to go find a sound that would match the filter right at the end so the silence is not there.

For the audio and sound of the music video, i try and have the best sound quality possible for the music video. The sound that i use for the music video is all raw and made by me, by sampling beats together.

The sounds being shown here, are the samples and the loops that were made on bandlab, the reason why i used bandlab to create the music for my video, is because it is easily accessible and copy right free, allowing me to use and change the pitches of the sound however i want.

For the moving image, i used Adobe Animate, where i began creating different frames for the moving image, along with having to remove the background of the bus to try and make it fit in within the video.

For the video, i changed the preset to 4k high quality, to try and get the best out of the video possible. However, the downside of doing this would make the file size much bigger making the download speed much longer. The video itself features no filters, as i decided to keep it all raw footage, as i saw no need to be adding any additional special effects to the video, due to it only being set in one area outside.

Improvements based on feedback

On the first set of improvements, i changed the tempo on the audio by making it louder. By doing this the audience watching the music video, will be able to hear the lyrics and music more clearly.

LO4: Evidence of editing and final video

Evidence of working on Video

Offline edit: footage in order

Final draft of video - upload to YouTube then post link

Evidence of editing 2

The photos shown here, are the tracks and audio recordings of the song. The app that was used that Soundcloud, as the app has good copyright free samples that we could use to create the music being used, to then add our sound recording into the video. The app was used on the free version, so it shows that not even with the full version of the app, we still managed to create a song to a good standard, with the quality, that was agreed was suitable for the song.

The image here, shows me at the location, recording the video. The item of clothing used here was to look like a dodgy person, as in the video I do beat Chris up twice. The reason why we picked this area, is because it is a quiet area, with not a lot of people walking by which made recording easier.

The screenshot here shows the editing stage of the music video. From what we can see is the audio that is being used for the music video, along with the clip itself. Also, it also shows the cutouts on the video and the stretch of the duration of the videos along with the clips being made longer or shorter, through time durations or the use of cutting scenes out.

LO3: Production Materials

 Behind the scenes

Camera/equipment explanation

The equipment that was used for the music video, was  a camera and I tripod. The reason why I used the tripod at times during the vide, was to stabilise the camera at certain heights, as for one of the scenes it required both me and Chris, so the tripod was useful enough to capture a scene with me and Chris. However, next time I would use a different tripod as the one I used was more for taking Photographs.

The camera has a built in mic and movie mode, meaning I could use the camera to capture photos and record. Not only does this save me from carrying a lot of stuff, but it also allowed me to get the recording done faster.

Following Pre-Production Documents

I followed my storyboard as close as I could. The only scene that I changed was the first scene and the last scene, we got to filming and it was too time consuming and complicated so I made it more simple. As I was filming outside, I wanted to follow my risk assessment as much as possible such as making sure there was enough room for equipment, cast and crew such as avoiding narrow paths, as this would have been unsafe for my crew. However, comparing the images to my story board there are some similarities in the way my equipment was set up, as the camera angles were correct along with layout overall. This benefits my music video, as no pre production documents would need changing which would save me time.

Legal Constraints and Risks

The biggest legal constraint I had to consider for my music video was copy right (permission below from client). Now that I have evidence of permission, I can avoid any legal action being brought against me. As stated above, to prevent any risks during filming I followed my risk assessment so that my cast and crew were safe.
Above is the link that has the paperwork in, that shows my consideration of risks on my shoot.

Codes and Conventions

In order to make my music video a comedy, I recorded footage of my client rolling around on the floor in some scenes, along with falling over in some scenes too, to carry on adding the comedic effect to my video. The reason why doing these actions are important, is because it needs to link with the lyrics of the video. Next, I will edit in a bus running over my client, as in the raw footage the music video just shows him randomly jumping backwards. By combining all of this together they should all create the comedic atmosphere that I planned on creating for my music video.

LO2: Planning the promotional video

Concept documents: Mind map, mood board

Treatment

Product and Genre: The promotional video I will be making is a Animation Music video for a Hip Hop song.
Resources: The resources I will be using is an old recorded song that my client had made last year, and I will be remixing the song with him due to the original song being posted on social media. The apps that I will be using is BandLab which is a mobile app that helps record and form pieces of sound and lyrics to create music. I could also use my own guitar for the song if needed to. However, i mostly plan on adding a bass guitar to the song at the moment. I will also have to use school equipment for when making the animation edits for the video as that will be the most challenging part.
Personnel: Working on the project I will have my friend Chris who is the lead singer for the music animation video, and also the creator of the song we will be using.
Time Scale: The times I want to get everything done is by April. For example, remixing the song will take some time due to recording and deciding on new beats to be added to the song, along with adding more high quality sounds to the song. This could potentially either take a day or even a week. Getting the forms signed will take about 10 to 20 minutes depending on what need to be signed. The main music video itself will be the most difficult part as we will have to merge everything as one, and make sure it all fits along with making a digital creation of the characters that will be drawn out.
Contingency: If making the remix of the song takes longer than expected, I will find ways to improvise by working on the first steps of the video to give me a head start on the video while working on the music. If my other client cannot make the characters that I want in the video, I will go out and look for others who can take his place, or I will have to try it myself. If I was to do the music video half animated. The positives I could gain from this would be the likes of it being less time consuming, the video would not be as difficult to edit, making the characters for the video will be more easy, as I wouldn't have to create multiple frames for each character and perfect the movement as its easier said than done. However, the negatives of doing this would be, picking out a location to film in as I would not be able to film in a room unless I use greenscreen. This would end up leading me to do risk assessments depending on where I am.
Running Time: I will make my music video that will be around 3 minutes long. Because this the standard length of a music video, and also I do not want to lose the attention of my audience by making it too long.
Target Audience: My target audience for this music video is young adults. This is due to my music video being more comedic than serious, which will gain more of their attention.
Release Date: Due to my young target audience, I will release the video on YouTube, so it is accessible for my target audience because they are digital natives. I will release it in the summer, as music tends to trend more during that season.

Synopsis

For my music video I plan on doing animation for it. By doing this I will have the characters drawn out and then added to the app I will be experimenting with so I can get knowledge on how animation works. To have the characters drawn out I will ask one of my mates if they are free to draw them out digitally for me, and then email the characters to I can then upload them. Because this is a music video I will also have to gather up my mates who are willing to be apart of the music video and write up some form of a script. Or I can contact my mate Chris who has already released music in the past, and I could potentially ask him if he wants to remake the songs and add a music video along with it. This will save me a lot of time by allowing me to focus on the editing and creating the characters.
The way I want to create this music video is by having it set out as a story that can hold some form of a story or an adventure. If we were to enhance the music or potentiality add more it as it will be a remake I can potentially use mine or Chris's guitars to add more into it.
The reason why I have picked my friend Adam to create the characters, is because I have seen him create many characters digitally with some form of a website he uses. If he agrees I will be able to ask him to create them in a 2D form or a 3D form so I know how I want my final piece to look.
If I have the characters in a 2D form I will have them set out as sketch style, making it look like the characters events are being drawn right in front of him. However, due to the animation being time consuming, I might have to do half animated and the other half not. Instead of using the computers in school I have found a few editing apps on my phone which specializes in animation, which then i could use to enhance the edit to make the quality of the animation far more better.
In order to plan out my production, I will be using Microsoft excel to plan out a schedule, which will let me know what we are doing on each week. I will continue to add to the schedule as the Easter Holidays are coming up, which will allow me to work on the song and music video more often. The name of the song I will be using is called Record Player Girl or Broken Melody, as the song talks about how music has this girls emotions causing her to have a broken melody. The reason why we first picked the name to be Record Player Girl, was because the music that is controlling her emotions is from a record player. This could also connote that the record player is the girl, and could potentially mean she is playing with her own emotions through her music that she is playing.  The main ideas for the video is to create a shadow like figure of a woman. This will not only save time on editing, but also make it far more easier to edit on the video. In addition to this, the viewers of the video will also be able to create their own view of what the woman looks like, as we will never see her facial features within the video.

Target Audience

The target audience for my promotional video is for a demographic of both male and female audience. This is because the song is all about the rejection of love, which everybody can go through in life. The age range for for the promotional video is ages 12-40 as during these ages people experience lots of emotions, and therefore would have a deeper understanding of the music video and the lyrics being spoken. This is due to the song having lyrics that have a deep meaning to it mainly in the chorus and the 4th verse in my opinion. However, the song is mainly targeted at males as the song uses words such as "She" "that she" "her tears". This tells us that the person the song is about is a woman, as most love songs talk about the divide of love between a man and a woman, which some men could relate to. This once again proves why the the age for the song is a 12-40, due to complex meaning and words that are being described as someone's emotion.

Legal and Ethical- move the other legal and ethical post into here

The ethical rules that we have to follow for the music video is to make sure people do not get offended by the lyrics in the music video, as it does talk about other peoples emotions. This can sometimes be a topic that others might find offensive, as they could relate to it happening to them or other people that they could be close to.

Treatment Backup

Promotional Video: The promotional video i will be a live action music video.
Resources: The resources i will be using is BandLab, to create the the beats that are going to be used in the music video. Also, i will use my camera to record our scenes at the chosen location. Next, i will then use the IMacs available at UTC to use Adobe Premier to make any edits on the video that is needed. The beats on BandLap allow me to change it to how i want it to be, by adding in more drum and base, or allowing me to create more of my own to fit the style of the music being made.
Personal: With working on the video my friend Chris will be featured in the music video, as he will be rapping in the video.
Timescale: The timescale of this video should be completed by the end of the June, with the final edits taking place in June, as it should not take long at all to put together. Getting all the forms printed and signed and planned should take about 10 minutes, plus a new mind map to give us a small detailed brief of what is going to happen. The beats are already made, which took around 30 minutes to make and put together.
Contingency: When filming the music video, i will have to consider where i film and the people around me in order to not cause any complains of me filming. Also, the place where i want to film does not have the greatest history on our streets, so i will have to make sure the place is safe to film. However, due to construction and more higher security, the place has recently been more secure and safe, meaning filming could be more possible.

Brief

For my music video, I plan on doing a live action music video. I plan on using my friend Chris as an actor of the music video. The location for the music video will be a footpath that links between both Hemmingfield and Cottonwood. The music will be a hiphop beat from the 80s, which will feature both me and Chris in the video. The music video will be about someone having a bad day, which will be a comedy video, which isn't supposed to be taken serious at all. For the first verse of the song, I had taken inspiration from the rapper Yuno Miles. The songs title that I will create will the called "The Bad Day",  as the music video goes through different events of the main actor being unlucky. There will be some edits to do, as i have to edit a bus into the video to run Chris over with, I will also add sound effects of punches when Chris gets beaten up twice. The sound of the music video will follow a more 80s style of rap, as it will have turntables with drum and bass. The audience for this music video are both male and female genders, from the age of 12 to 30, as the music video is more comical rather than following a more serious gangster rap than anything. In addition, the demographic audience is for am ABC1 and a C2DE, as the song doesn't talk about having fancy cars or big houses, meaning both audiences won't have an affect of wealth or their national income. However, another artist that inspired me was Eminem. Although the music being used doesn't follow his style and flow of his music, the music video will predominantly be set out the same way as he did in a lot of his videos. For example, his recent song Houdini, as some action scenes that are presented in the same way as a comic with the words of "Pow" being used, along with the action sounds that were used in the early Batman films. This will fit my music video well, as it shows the unseriousness of the video and adds to the comedy side that I want to present. Also, the song that I made features no swearing, so people under 12 could listen to it. However, with the complexed words being used, it might not be as simplistic for them to understand.

Legal and Ethical

Legal

Copyright- Gives the author or creator the exclusive right to copy, adapt, communicate, lend or sell copies of the work.
Intellectual Property Rights- Intellectual property rights are the rights given to persons over the creations of their minds. They usually give the creator an exclusive right over the use of his/her creations for a certain period of time.

Ethical

Representation- Are you representing individuals/groups of people in an appropriate way?
Age Appropriate- Is your product appropriate for your audience? Bring regulation into it (BBFC, OFCOM, PEGI).

How Does My Music Video Present These Breaches?

Copyright- The way my promotional video will prevent copyright, is by using my own music that i have created. By doing this i will avoid using sounds by other artists that are protected by their record labels. However, i also have to consider similarities between my music and other artists, as some would still claim that your music sounds too similar to theirs. Next, i would have to write my own lyrics that could take inspiration from other artists but not completely stealing their entire flow. For example, the song could be inspired by another artist but must have some of my own way of originality. Finally, The music video itself must be my own, as even music videos themselves are legally protected either due to the fame of the artist or how successful the video itself was. This means i will have to use my own unique editing, along with picking my own location that has not been used constantly in other content. Overall, the consequences of not following these copyright laws, the consequences could include a lawsuit with fines involved, along with the video itself to be taken down from all its platforms.
Ethical- My music video follows the basic representations of my content being classed as ethical, as the target audience for the video would be both male and female audiences from ages 12-30, as although the promotional video does not contain any swearing, some lyrics within the video could be classed as violent language to some. However, my video can be listened by all races, as there is no discriminatory language in the video that could be classed as racist, sexist and so on. Unless someone gets offended by the fact i edited my friend in the video being hit by a bus, i do not see my promotional video having any issues what so ever.
